Moreton Bay covers a lot of ground, and it changes character as you move through it. Down on the Redcliffe peninsula the roads are flat and close to the water, which makes the foreshore streets around Scarborough and Margate an easy place to begin. Inland, the newer estates at North Lakes and Mango Hill are laid out with wide streets and roundabouts, while Caboolture and Morayfield keep the feel of older towns that have grown quickly.

Because the region is so spread out, our instructors work close to where you live and teach on the roads you deal with day to day, whether that is Anzac Avenue on the peninsula, Gympie Road through Strathpine or Morayfield Road by the shops. You stay with one instructor the whole way, a parent can arrange the lessons and keep an eye on things, and the plan is a driver who is still at ease around the bay long after the licence arrives.

From your Ls to your Ps

The run from a learner permit to your Ps in Queensland looks like this, and here is where our bay lessons come in.

10 = 30hours in your logbook

Professional lessons count triple

There is a genuine shortcut built into the Queensland logbook. Your first 10 hours of professional lessons are each logged as three, which turns 10 into 30. That is nearly a third of the 100 supervised hours dealt with before you have driven much at all.

Your bay instructor records every lesson so it counts properly. Past the first 10 they log as normal hours, and they are usually the most useful driving a learner does before the test. Where a parent is doing the supervising, it also trims down the run of night drives.

Moreton Bay driving lesson questions

Which Moreton Bay test centre will I use?

It depends where you live. Transport and Main Roads runs practical tests at three centres across the region: Caboolture in the north, Strathpine in the Pine Rivers area, and Redcliffe at Kippa-Ring for the peninsula. You book your test with Transport and Main Roads, and your instructor can run the roads near your centre with you first.

Do you teach on the Redcliffe peninsula?

Yes. We cover Redcliffe, Scarborough, Margate, Woody Point and Clontarf. The flat, quiet foreshore streets are a calm place for a first lesson, before you work up to Anzac Avenue and the busier peninsula roads.

Do you cover North Lakes and the newer estates?

Yes. North Lakes, Mango Hill, Murrumba Downs and Narangba are full of wide streets and roundabouts, which suit newer drivers, along with the busier roads around the North Lakes shopping precinct.

Do you pick up from home, work or school?

Yes. Free door-to-door pick-up and drop-off is part of every lesson, so we can collect you from home, work, a TAFE campus or school anywhere around the bay and bring you back.

Do you teach automatic and manual, and what does it cost?

Both, for the same price. Automatic is the quicker route to a licence; manual gives you the full unrestricted one. One hour is $93, and the 5 and 10-lesson packs drop the price of each lesson.

How many hours do I need before the practical test?

Queensland learners log 100 supervised hours, 10 of them at night, and pass the hazard perception test before the practical. Your first 10 hours of professional lessons count as three each, so they go in as 30.
