Logan is one of the biggest and fastest-growing parts of South East Queensland, and it is really two places at once. There are the established suburbs like Springwood, Woodridge, Kingston and the old town of Beenleigh, each with its own busy shopping strips and arterials, and then there are the newer master-planned estates out at Yarrabilba and Flagstone, laid out with wide streets and roundabouts that suit a learner finding their feet.

Because Logan spreads so far, our instructors work close to where you live and teach on the roads you use day to day, from Kingston Road and Beaudesert Road to the busy stretches around the Browns Plains and Loganholme shopping centres. You keep one instructor the whole way, a parent can take care of the booking and follow how it is going, and the aim is a driver who is at ease anywhere in Logan long after the licence comes through.

From your Ls to your Ps

Here is the run from a learner permit through to your Ps in Queensland, and where our Logan lessons come in.

10 = 30hours in your logbook

Professional lessons count triple

Queensland builds a proper leg-up into the logbook. Each of the first 10 hours you spend in professional lessons is recorded as three, turning 10 hours into 30. That clears close to a third of the 100 supervised hours before you have done much driving at all.

Your Logan instructor logs every lesson so those hours are counted right. After the first 10 they go in as ordinary hours, and they are usually the most valuable time a learner spends before the test. If a parent is doing the supervising, it also cuts down the string of night drives.

Logan driving test centres

The practical test is booked and run by Transport and Main Roads, not by Metro. In Logan it is held at a couple of centres, so it helps to know where you are headed before the day. Your instructor can take you over the roads near your centre first so it feels familiar.

Logan Central

On Jacaranda Avenue, this is the main Logan test centre, handling the practical for most of the city. Some light-vehicle Saturday testing has been offered here, though availability varies, so check with Transport and Main Roads.

South-east

Bethania

The services that used to run at Beenleigh have moved to the Bethania centre, where practical car testing is also available for the Beenleigh and Waterford side of Logan.

Centres and their hours can change, so confirm what is current and book straight through Transport and Main Roads.

Which Logan test centre will I use?

Transport and Main Roads runs the practical test, and around Logan it is held at Logan Central on Jacaranda Avenue, with testing also available at Bethania since the Beenleigh services moved there. You book the test with Transport and Main Roads, and your instructor can drive the roads near your centre with you beforehand.

Do you cover the newer estates like Yarrabilba and Flagstone?

Yes. Yarrabilba and Flagstone are laid out with wide streets and plenty of roundabouts, which makes them a steady place for a newer driver to build up, and we teach right through them along with the established Logan suburbs.

Do you teach around the big shopping centres?

Yes. The roads around Browns Plains and the Loganholme Hyperdome get busy, and they are a good place to get comfortable with heavier traffic once your control is there. Lessons build up to them at your own pace.

Do you pick up from home, work or school?

Yes. Free door-to-door pick-up and drop-off comes with every lesson, so we can collect you from home, work, a TAFE campus or school anywhere across Logan and bring you back after.

Do you teach automatic and manual, and what does it cost?

We teach both at the one price. Automatic is the fastest way to a licence, while manual earns the full unrestricted one. One hour is $93, and the 5 and 10-lesson packs lower what each lesson costs.

How many supervised hours do I need before the test?

In Queensland you record 100 supervised hours, including 10 at night, and pass the hazard perception test before the practical. The first 10 hours of professional lessons each count as three, so they add up to 30 in the logbook.
