Great experience with Metro. Colin is an amazing instructor. I highly recommend him for anyone wanting to learn manual, or for internationals like me converting a licence and getting familiar with the test.

I passed my driving test in one go, and I couldn't have done it without my instructor. Tas is honest, very patient, and explains everything so clearly. Her calm nature helped me feel confident and ready.

Colin is a great instructor who makes practising smooth and easy. I went into my test super confident that I would pass. I recommend anyone wanting to learn to book with him.

Is this you

These lessons suit you if

Even experienced drivers are often caught out by local rules and give-way conventions. That's what we focus on.

  • You hold an over6seas licence and are new to Queensland
  • You're adapting to driving on the left
  • You're required to sit the QLD practical test to convert
  • You're a new resident wanting a quick local road-rules tune-up
How it works

From overseas licence to Queensland roads

Whether your licence converts directly or needs a practical test depends on the country it's from, so the first step is always to check your pathway.

1

Check your pathway

Confirm with Transport and Main Roads whether your licence needs testing to convert, and which tests apply.

2

Adapt to local roads

A lesson or two on Queensland road rules and driving on the left.

3

Get test-ready, if needed

A mock test and test-day support so the practical goes smoothly.

Why lessons help

The local knowledge that trips people up

Local road-rules focus

Give-way rules, roundabouts, school zones and the conventions that differ from home.

Test-ready if you need it

If a practical test is required, we prepare you for exactly what's assessed.

Experienced-driver pace

We skip the basics you already know and focus on adapting to Queensland roads.

Mock test and car hire

Practise under test conditions and hire our car for the official test.

Lessons and test support

Pay for what you need

Most overseas drivers need only a lesson or two to adapt. If a practical test is required, a mock test and car hire are there when you want them.

Good to know

Overseas conversion questions

It depends on the country your licence is from. Licences from New Zealand and recognised countries can often transfer without a test, while licences from non-recognised countries require you to pass a road rules (theory) test and the Queensland practical driving test. Check your specific pathway with Transport and Main Roads (Queensland Transport).

Many experienced overseas drivers do, mainly to adapt to driving on the left and local road rules, and to know what the Queensland test assessor expects.

Yes. You can hire our driving school car for the official test, and practise in our cars beforehand with a lesson or a mock test.

Yes, that's a core part of these lessons: give-way rules, roundabouts, speed zones and the conventions that differ from other countries.
