Learning to drive here
What it’s like learning in Chandler
With blocks of two and a half acres and up, Chandler stays leafy and unhurried, and its low-traffic acreage streets are a real gift for a first lesson. Roads such as Grassdale Road, London Road and Boston Road carry very little through traffic, so there is room to get used to the clutch, the steering and gentle stops without feeling rushed. Most learners spend their early hours on these calm lanes before adding turns and give-way practice.
As you settle in, Old Cleveland Road becomes the road you will use most, running east through the suburb past the Sleeman Sports Complex at the Tilley Road corner. The complex, home to the Brisbane Aquatic Centre and the Anna Meares Velodrome, gives you a clear, well-signed junction to work on. From here Old Cleveland Road carries on across Tingalpa Creek into Capalaba, where it feeds into Finucane Road and the run down to the Cleveland test centre.
