Learning to drive here
What it’s like learning in Alexandra Hills
Most learners in Alexandra Hills begin on the calm residential loops away from the main road. Streets like Hanover Drive, Alexandra Circuit and Heffernan Road give plenty of room to get comfortable with steering, gentle braking and low-speed turns, and the gridded estate around Princeton Avenue is handy for early practice near Alexandra Hills State School. From there we work up to the wider curves of Cambridge Drive and Newhaven Street, where you can settle into give-way rules and lane keeping without much pressure.
When you are ready for something busier, Finucane Road is the spine of the suburb and the road you will use most. It carries the traffic between Capalaba and Cleveland, past the Alexandra Hills Shopping Centre on the corner of Cambridge Drive, and it is a good place to practise joining moving traffic, roundabouts and timed turns. Windemere Road adds school-zone awareness near the high school and the TAFE campus. Following Finucane Road east, across Hilliards Creek and on toward Ormiston, leads you to the run into Cleveland where the practical test is held.
