Driving lessons in Annerley

Annerley gives a learner a useful contrast between established residential streets and the much busier Ipswich Road corridor. Lessons can begin with the controls and routine observations, then build towards Annerley Junction, Chardon's Corner and Annerley Road when the learner is ready for more traffic, pedestrians and lane decisions.

Getting started in Annerley

Most of Annerley is residential, with a network of local streets on both sides of Ipswich Road. A newer learner can use suitable streets around the residential pockets to work on steering, braking, kerb position and ordinary give-way decisions before adding a major arterial. The terrain is generally flat to gently sloping, so early lessons can concentrate on the car and the traffic rather than constant steep gradients. Around Junction Park State School and the Waldheim Street community facilities, our instructors can also introduce the extra observation needed when school or local activity changes the conditions.

Ipswich Road is the clear step up. It divides Annerley and carries the two familiar retail and service nodes at Annerley Junction and Chardon's Corner, where through traffic meets buses, pedestrians, parked vehicles and frequent turns. Annerley Road adds another busy north-south connection and meets Ipswich Road at the junction. These roads are useful once the learner can plan earlier, hold a lane and keep enough attention available for what is happening beyond the next vehicle. The lesson does not need to cover both centres at once; one well-managed approach is more useful than rushing through the whole corridor.
