If you're choosing a driving school for yourself or for someone in the family, it helps to know who you're dealing with. Metro has taught learners across South East Queensland for decades. This page explains what we do, how we teach and the areas we cover.
Teaching Queensland learners since 1965
Metro started in 1965 and is one of the longest-running driving schools in Brisbane. A lot has changed on the roads since then. The basic job has not: helping a nervous beginner become a safe, capable driver, one lesson at a time.
Over that time we've taught complete beginners, learners coming back after a long break, and people who already drive overseas and need to prepare for a Queensland test. Different starting points, the same calm, practical approach.

Why families choose Metro
In the car For the learner
Calm, patient instruction in a dual-control car. Your instructor sets the pace, explains each step and gives you time to practise without being rushed.
Behind the scenes For the person booking
If you're arranging lessons for your teenager, our office handles bookings and questions. That keeps the instructor's time in the car on driving, not on the phone sorting out the next appointment.
Our approach
We teach for the long run, not just the test. That means building safe habits you'll still rely on years after you pass, like steady observation, sensible speed and reading traffic early.
Lessons are structured. Your instructor keeps track of what you've covered and what still needs work, so each session builds on the last rather than starting from scratch.
It's completely normal to stall, miss a gear or need something explained twice. That's part of learning, and there's time to get it right.
Where we teach
Metro covers Brisbane, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast and Cairns.
Our instructors know the local roads and the busier routes learners need to practise. Lessons can begin on quieter streets and build up to heavier traffic as your observation and decision-making improve.
